Obsessions are hard to hide and so many of our readers are aware that he have a small obsession over all things lupine. It’s not just any wolf that makes us howl, however. We’re most inclined toward the She-Wolf, La Lupa, a symbol of Rome recognized worldwide.
We’re particularly pleased when we see the She-Wolf image used in modern contexts, that is, as a means of expressing the very Roman-ness of someone or something, as she does when she appears on the A.S. Roma soccer jerseys and the belt buckles of Rome’s stalwart Polizia force. And, truth be told, we’re almost as pleased when we see companies and events appropriating the image in ways that are somewhat more pedestrian.
While we were not initially intrigued by the advertisements for Moto Days that appeared around Rome last week, we became a lot more interested when we studied the publicity for this motorcycle and scooter convention up close. You might say that we were downright charmed by the central image of Romulus and Remus, helmets donned, mounted atop their adoptive mother in positions that suggest that they’re still in the race.
