Easter at Valzani

Giant Egg at Valzani

In his film, Bianca, Roman director Nanni Moretti gazes longingly into the window of Trastevere’s Valzani chocolate shop, no doubt admiring the sacher torte for which this store is appropriately famous.

Founded in 1925 — and still sporting an early 20th century decor — Signora Valzani and her crew create lovely, delicious, sweet things — the sacher torte is really just a start.  They’ve also got praline al pepperoncino (chocolates that have a bite), candied orange peels, Easter eggs of every measure, and a whole lot more.

We’ve been there admiring the Easter lineup recently and we love those lines of eggs topped with colorful bows.  We’re charmed by the fact that they’ll make custom Easter eggs filled with your own surprise — so head on over with that engagement ring or whatever else it is that you’ve been looking for a creative way to give to the ones that you love.  And we’re eager for Easter to be over, because there’s nothing a bag full of the broken chocolate eggs that they sell after season ends.

Via del Moro, 37b. Closed Tuesday and during the month of August (the chocolate melts, you know?)
